🎯 What is ARRL Field Day?

ARRL Field Day is the most popular on-the-air event held annually in the U.S. and Canada. Every June, more than 35,000 radio amateurs gather with their clubs, groups, or as individuals to operate under simulated emergency conditions.

It’s part contest, part emergency communication drill, and part public outreach—and you’re invited to be a part of it!

📻 What You Can Expect:

• Live radio operations on HF, VHF, and UHF bands
• Demonstrations of emergency power, antennas, and equipment
• Get on the air (GOTA) station for newcomers to try operating with the help of an experienced mentor
• Digital modes, voice, CW (Morse code) and satellite contact demonstrations
• Meet local amateur radio operators and learn how to get your FCC license
• Food, fellowship, and fun for all ages!

📢 Attention! Skywarn Spotter Class Announcement

The National Weather Service will be hosting an in-person Skywarn Spotter class on April 17th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM CST at the Shiloh Road Church of Christ.

Why attend the Skywarn Spotter Class?

• Stay Prepared: Learn how to identify severe weather, including tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds, which can save lives and property.

• Free Training: This class is free and open to the public, with no prior experience necessary.

SKYWARN^TM Training is Also Available Online!

If you can’t attend one of the classes in person, official SKYWARN^TM training is available online through the COMET program. COMET is a cooperative program between the National Weather Service and the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR).

Anyone who completes this online course, passes the associated quiz with a score of 70% or better, and watches a video provided by the National Weather Service in Blacksburg will become an offically trained SKYWARN^TM spotter.

When you have completed the training, passed the test with 70% or better, and watched the video, please email our Warning Coordination Meteorologist and let him know. Also, in your email, in addition to a small note stating you completed the training and video, please include the following:

     1.  Your 911 mailing address or your latitude/longitude to the nearest 4th decimal place

     2.  Your phone number

     3.  Any time restrictions of when you would NOT want to be called by our meteorologists

     4.  Whether or not you have any weather equipment and the type of equipment

     5.  An attachment of the certificate you earned after completing the online class

People’s Choice Chili Cookoff Winner – March 20th Club Meeting

We are excited to announce the winner of our People’s Choice Chili Cookoff held during the March 20th club meeting! After a fantastic turnout and some delicious chili entries, the votes are in, and Andrew Bogue (N5EAB) is the proud winner of this year’s competition. Congratulations, Andrew!

A huge thank you to all the participants who took part in this fun and flavorful event. With 8 amazing chili recipes to choose from, everyone brought their best to the table, and it was a true celebration of culinary creativity.

We truly appreciate everyone who joined us and made this event a great success. It was a wonderful opportunity for members to come together, share their love of good food, and, of course, enjoy some friendly competition.

We look forward to more exciting events like this and can’t wait to see what next year’s chili cookoff will bring!
