License Exam Sessions
Amateur Radio License examination sessions are held:
- Each second Sunday of the month, at 2:00 pm at the Tyler American Red Cross, 320 E Rieck Rd, Tyler, TX 75703
- Each third Thursday of the month, at 6:00 PM at the Shiloh Road Church of Christ in Tyler, 1 hour prior to the monthly TARC club meeting
The exam cost is $14 – Cash only. Exams are open to anyone who wishes to take one, you do not have to be a club member
The exams are administered by the Tyler VE team. Contact us for further information.
If you are studying to upgrade or for your first license and are struggling with a part of the theory, contact us for support to get you past the hurdle.
Please Note – FCC FRN Requirement
The FCC now requires that individuals obtain an FRN (FCC Registration Number) before coming to the test session.

After you receive your FRN you are all set for testing.
When Attending a Testing Session
Please bring:
- The testing fee of $14, if applicable
- Your FRN
- A government issued photo id such as your driver’s license. Exception: applicants under the age of 18 who do not have a government-issued photo ID can show a student ID, or a parent or guardian can present a government-issued photo ID and state that the applicant is their child and that the applicant is using their correct name
The team will have all the material required to take the test. Exams are administered using a electronic tablet which includes a calculator for use during the exam.
Applicants must turn off their cell phones and other communication devices in person, or put them out of reach when testing remotely unless the device is being otherwise used by the exam team.
